A Blistering, Video…type of a day

May 31, 2009 · 1 Comment

All I have to say is that I am exhausted. Flat out exhausted.

My soccer game was great…except that I was LATE. I hate being late..honestly I hate it. I had the hour wrong and my coached called me at 1:56pm and goes ‘where are you. we don’t have any subs.’ I go ‘at the grocery store doesn’t the game start at 3pm?’ She goes ‘no, it starts at 2pm’. So I raced to the game. Thank goodness  for the rice cake and peanut butter that I had. Yes, it’s more then a smear..whatever.

P1011578I snacked on about 1 1/2 c. of grapes on the way to and after the game. I also had about four little orange slices at half time. Also at half time my blisters were no longer protected due to the massive amount of running I was doing. I played the WHOLE 90 minutes..as MID FIELDER–the most amount of running. We only had 11 players and for about 1/2 of the game we only had about 9 players..awesome! Thus, I had to electrical tape my bandaids back on otherwise the pain is too much.

P1011581I came home and IMMEDIATELY wanted a Green Monster when I got home: 1/2 c. rice milk, 1/2 c. water, 2 1/2 c. spinach, 1 banana, 1/3 c. blueberries.

P1011582

I have been rehydrating the whole day with my new water bottle. I won’t tell you how much I spent on it..but it’s the SIGG water bottle..made by the Swiss..apparently.

P1011558

Tonight for dinner I made Lemon Herbed Fish (8oz) and lemon topped steamed brusselsprouts.

P1011589I am not too sure if I am totally sold on the recipe..so I’ll make it again. The herbs I used were basil and rosemary.

—————————————————-

I have something that I want to say…because it really hit me today. I went to Mass tonight (I am not Catholic, however I work for a Catholic uni and it’s right down the street). The topic of today’s Mass was loving yourself, seeing yourself as a worth being, embracing the fact that you were made to give as much as you can to yourself so that you can give back to others in ways your feel comfortable. There was religious stuff in there, but that’s not the point.

I was reading through someone’s blog today and they are totally focused on their binge eating, how ashamed they’ve felt, how they need this and that. I TO HAVE STRUGGLED with this. The one thing which the Priest said that struck me is that ‘you can’t give fully of yourself until your recognise that negative feelings towards yourself hinder your ability to love yourself and give’.

I wanted to cry.

There are moments in all of our lives where we feel less than par with our decisions, where we are, who we’re dating, our job, the run we didn’t do. However, it’s about finding the strength inside of each of you..YES YOU to cherish that fact that you’re alive and that deserve to love yourself. To begin to heal over the blisters in our lives that never seem to heal because we keep trashing away at the fact that we do not feel we are worthy. YOU ARE WORTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!

The many stories online of people overcoming body issues is because they stopped obsessing about certain things and gave themselves worth, space, and peace to LOVE THEMSELVES.

Here’s India Arie’s ‘Video’…listen to the lyrics

That’s my sermon. Now go get some love on.

Iced Blueberries

May 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I started off this morning with my usual positive things about my day:

  • My new monster recipe
  • Going out to lunch w/ a friend
  • Soccer game
  • Mass
  • Fish for dinner

This morning I started it off with a Purple Monster. I had been dreaming about it since last night.

P1011566

I then snacked on two granola bars. I was hungry this morning.

P1011545P1011572P1011573Ok, I didn’t like them as much as the bars I had the other day. They were too dry. I think that the oatmeal bars are making my stomach upset. I’ve noticed that whenever I eat raw oats (muesli, granola, bars) I get the runs. SAD :( . I have 1 1/2 boxes of them. I will have to pass them on to someone else..maybe I’ll add them to a smoothie..or cook them down. I won’t be defeated!

I then went out to breakfast. I hate going out! It’s always such a chore to find things, especially those that don’t cost and arm and a leg. I ordered the ‘Dockers D’ite’ ‘2 poached eggs, tomato, mushrooms, spinach, two pieces of toast with low fat cream cheese and 2 slices of ham’.

1. I don’t want the bread
2. I’ve decided to become pescatarian
3. I don’t get a price reduction :)

P1011575

I had a pot of peppermint tea

P1011574

My friend Megan who I went out with…my old roommate.

P1011576I was a little peckish when I came home. So I ate 1/2 c. of blueberries..frozen, with a splash of almond milk on them. Have you ever done this? I LOVE IT!

P1011577

OK..need to go and get my last load of laundry off of the line before the thunderstorms roll in … fun! I am off to go and play a soccer game today. I feel totally ready for it. Honestly I do. Bring it on.

I am hoping that these bad boys will hold up. Been trying to bandage them with special blister band aids the whole week.

P1011571(those are my Ugg house slippers..you must get a pair).

Ok..check back in after the game and I’ve got some Fish to Fry later!

My Year w/o Sex–a review

May 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I am back from the movie My Year Without Sex.

Critic’s Review: It’s a cute movie. It’s interesting in that it showcases a very typical upbringing and lifestyle in an Australian Family. The only thing I was craving was more character development. I think that sometimes it was a bit too superficial and it had the potential to really explore the characters more. However a good movie..didn’t regret buying the ticket.

I did gnaw on a bit of popcorn, but got myself a coffee..opps forgot to ask for decaf..now I am WIDE AWAKE. Well, I need to go and try to fall asleep. I have the BEST Green Monster for tomorrow..I am so excited that I can’t wait to try it…check back in tomorrow morning :)

Two Men

May 30, 2009 · 3 Comments

After my awesome lunch I needed some more food to power me through my laundry hanging, shopping excursion.

I snacked on a pear and an awesome bar.

P1011549P1011550P1011552

I then went out and hit the stores. I mentioned that one of my goals for changing my habits was a new skirt. However, I found this dress on sale for 50.00 instead of 130.00. I like it!

P1011556P1011555

So, lets cross our fingers that the dress is there in three weeks (which it should be) cause it’s Fremantle and things don’t really move. I’ve never found a dress like that. It works on me cause it has a highlight waist and broad shoulder design. I can’t do tube tops and stringy straps, they don’t work on my larger frame.

I went grocery shopping today and saw a co-worker walking down the aisles. She looks fantastic. I randomly caught up with her in the check out line and go ‘by the way you look fantastic’.

She goes ‘thank you, I’ve lost 37kg (81lbs).’

She drove me home, because I bought way too much stuff.

In the car I go ‘I have to ask, how did you lose the weight?’

‘One day I decided that I had enough. I am diligent during the week and have what I want on the weekends. It also helps that I have two men in my life :) . I just decided that I was ready to be thin and that it was about adding exercise, thinking good about myself, and cutting back’.

It’s so true! That’s honestly all it is..isn’t it?

I have to admit that when I was trying that dress on, which is still the same size I wore before I gained the weight :) I thought to myself..I am actually not as ugly as I think that I am. I actually look and feel good. I have been hiding, literally, behind these frumpy clothes because I don’t have any clothes that I feel fit me anymore. Thus, I feel like crap everyday cycling through the two casual outfits, etc.

Ever felt that way before?

For me it’s not about the food, it’s about how I feel about life and where food plays a part in it. This morning and last night I meditated on all of the things which I was looking forward to. In all of the driving that I did today there were times when I’d slip back into the ‘God, I feel so fat, I just wish that it would be over’ mentality. I would click myself out of it.

Remember, it’s you who has to buy into the idea that YOU can change something. You can succeed in whatever you do, you have to believe in that first.

Now..off to find TWO men…believe me…I could use it right now ;)

SJC Day 27 & 29 May 29, 30

May 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

SJC Day 27 May 29

25 ‘V’ crunches — Lay in a normal crunch position. Raise your legs straight up. Then split them so they make a ‘v’. Crunch like you normally would.
25 side crunches
each side
25 hip raises — in a crunch position straighten your legs and raise so that the bottom of your feet are ‘touching’ the sky. Now lift your rear off the ground using your abs. Here’s a link of the exercise, you don’t need a bench. Put your hands down to your sides.
30 second plank
20 hands in pushups
15 second side plank
– each side.
Here are some tips:

  • Keep your shoulders stacked one on top of the other creating a straight line through your arms
  • Your chest should be open to the side (not tilted towards the floor or ceiling)
  • Keep your hips stacked – one leg should be resting slightly on the other
  • Your body should be aligned from your spine through your feet

Just remember that the plank can do tremendous things for your body and your core and is one of the most beneficial exercises we do in class. I hope that you grow to love it as much as I do!

side-plank

30 normal crunch pulses– it means that instead of going down and up for the normal crunch. Go from middle to up, middle to up. Thus keeping a more contracted ab area.
10 triceps pushups

SJC Day 28 May 30

Polly has some great videos for yoga. Let’s do the ‘Yoga For Yummy Abs’

20 Leg Shooters on each side
15 Table Top Rear Kick back Crosses on each side
Do these two leg work outs 2 times through

Driving, Driving, HUNGRY

May 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It’s 2:30pm and I have been in a car driving around from here there and everywhere for the past three hours. I feel like a soccer mom. I think that I got from 94-54 on the Top 80s songs…don’t you love the 80s?

Anyways this morning I started off with a Green Monster: 1 c. of rice milk (no sugar added..make sure to watch that when you’re buying ‘healthier’ milk), 3 c. spinach, 1 pear. DELICIOUS

P1011543

I also had two rice crackers w/ a smear of Natural Peanut Butter. Again watch the sugar that they put into peanut butter..it’s amazing how they sneak it in.

P1011544

I snacked on one of the bars that I found which is Gluten and SUGAR free. Again health bars are packed with sugar..so be careful.

P1011545P1011546

In between my three hour driving escapades I picked up an apple and about 1 1/2 c. of those huge red grapes..you know the ones with the seeds? I came hungry. So I made a salad w/ lettuce :) , snow peas, yellow capsicum, 2 whole egg whites–no yolk–, 1 huge tomato and some left over soy stirfry. Also 3 rice crackers. I topped it with a splash of balsamic and 1 tsp. of EVOO.

P1011547P1011548

Ok I am off to go put my laundry up on the line..do you hang your laundry or dry it?

Habits and Motivation

May 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I wrote last night about Habits and Motivation.

I also stated that I was going to write about habits I am committed to for the next 21 days.

1. Not eating when full (staying OP with Weight Watchers)
2. No sugar
3. Every morning getting up to do my City2Surf running

Rewards for my commitment to changing habits.

1. Every three days…a coffee
2. One whole week…a new book or jewelry
3. Two whole weeks…a new shirt
4. Three whole weeks…a new skirt

So here’s to three weeks of being committed to success. I am visualising now my new skirt. I think that I am going take a picture of skirt that I want to purchase and post it tomorrow..that will give me something to do.

I am so excited.

Hide n’ Seek Motivation

May 28, 2009 · 1 Comment

Hello There.

I have a deep need to write a post about motivation. I went through all of my old blog posts today and created a new tab ‘memorable posts‘ which I have broken down into little categories.

This morning I once again bailed on my running workout. I haven’t gone on any of my training runs this week. I am frustrated with myself. I need to get out of the following routine:

Set alarm: 5:15am
Press snooze button for an hour
Wake up at 6:15am and check blogs
7am starving, don’t do run promise myself after work
Make breakfast, internet search a bit more
Get ready

I need to switch to run and do the SJC in the mornings. I am not really disciplined after work to do working out. Especially running. It’s just me.

So I got to thinking…WHAT MOTIVATES PEOPLE ?

It’s funny because I’ve written posts about this before. The first one is Habits: how to create good ones

1. Talk is cheap..if you let it be

Be focused in your talk ‘I have committed myself to’     instead of ‘I am going to try to’

2. Stop the suffocating thoughts

Change the focus from what you don’t want to what you DO want

3. Visualise success

This one is huge for me. I have a 12k race that I am currently ‘training’ for. It’s over two months away and I am not visualing how I am going to feel at the end. After my 10k race I was on cloud…I need to visualise the end product to get me through the fact that dark cold mornings aren’t super enticing.

4. Keep it up

then come back to the new habit of thought you are creating. Spend another 30 seconds visualizing how it FEELS to be eating healthily and let it go. Keep repeating this process, being gentle with yourself in the moments you eat less than healthily, acknowledging the times when you ARE eating more healthily, and over time you will gradually change your habit for good!

5. Find a peace with yourself

you can change a habit of thought such as “I rarely reach my goals in the timeframe I set, therefore I’m a failure” to “I know my goals are always reached in perfect timing, no matter what.” By being willing to change your perspective, you literally shift your energy from one of resistance to one of relaxation and allowing, and in that shift you become an open vortex for your goals to be realized much more easily, and truly in perfect timing!

I am so glad that I was looking through my posts today because it’s amazing how many things you write about, forget you’ve written about, then find that you ‘needed them’ today!

The other post which I wrote was ‘Ways to stay motivated

1. Give yourself a break

2. Look at how far you’ve come

3. Pick a challenge, target or deadline

4. Hire a coach or personal trainer

5. Read some great quotes

6. Talk or write about your feelings

7. Treat yourself to something nice

8. Have a go at a new exercise or sport

9. Subscribe to blogs which you enjoy, so you get frequent updates

I like these ideas. I think it’s something which brings balance of giving yourself space, looking internally, and looking externally for motivation.

I am going to be thinking about the Five habit forming ideals as well as the Nine ways to motivate. I will get back to you tomorrow about what I am going to be doing.

What motivates you?
Do you set rewards for yourself?
What’s a habit you’d like to change and/or have changed?

(comment, your comments always inspire me)
